Should You Remove the Tree Trump or Grind It?

Have you recently had a tree removed, and now you’re wondering what you’re going to do with the remaining stump?

Well, we know what you shouldn’t do, and that is not to leave it there.

There are several reasons why leaving the tree stump is not an option:

  • First, when it starts to decay, it becomes a home for termites and all kinds of ground insects. These insects may get into your home, causing severe damage to your home.
  • A tree stump isn’t pretty; it can downplay the looks of your home’s landscape.
  • In addition, the tree trump has all its roots present in the ground, and when mowing your lawn, you might mow over them, which may end up damaging your lawnmower.
  • And when you decide to plant some new trees or flowers in the areas where the tree stump is, it simply won’t work. The stump root network won’t allow any new plants to take root.

So, the answer is to get rid of the stump. And now the question is, should you remove the stump or simply grind it?

The answer depends on what you plan on doing with your land, primarily where the stump exists.

Which One Should You Do?

Stump removal is cumbersome since you have to remove everything, including the roots. You’ll need the right equipment, and it also takes a pretty good amount of time.

The benefit of it all is you’ll be left with a clean yard. Sure, a big hole will be left behind, but you can fill it up, and you’re good to go.

Stump grinding, on the other hand, is the easier option, but you’ll still need an expert to do the shredding and grinding.

Stump grinding is an efficient way of eliminating a tree stump, leaving your yard intact, except the root networks will still be left in the ground and a relatively large pile of chips.

These chips can prove helpful, especially for gardening and mulching.

If you’re planning to landscape any time soon, stump grinding may not be favorable since the remaining root networks may take decades to decay completely. So, unless you’re willing to wait, stump removal may be the best option to go with.

Ultimately the decision is yours to make.
